The author supplies their manuscript to RJ broken down into either a 24 or 32 page format. RJ will return to the author two 2- page pencil spreads, set up as either spread artwork or single page artwork. The author has the choice of accepting or rejecting these pencils. If the author accepts, the RJ Communications illustrators will move on to the next step, which is a complete set of pencil sketches for your book. If the author rejects, the author can either request changes, at the per page change price or cancel the job at this point and use the "Look and Feel" pencils to help guide a new illustrator of the authors choosing. NO additional money will be due to RJ if the job is cancelled at this point.
When the author accepts the "Look and Feel" pencils, a decision needs to be made whether to continue the book as spreads or as individual page illustrations. Once the author makes this decision, the illustrator will supply a complete set of pencil illustrations for the entire book, based on the style of the "Look and Feel" pencils. If the author accepts these pencils, they are ready to move on to Step 3, "Coloring and Finalization" of the illustrations. If the author rejects these drawings, they have a choice of either having the illustrator make corrections to the drawings at the per page correction price or they may cancel the job completely and use the pencils as a guide in finding a different illustrator. If the author chooses not to proceed with Step 3, no further money will be owed to RJ.
This is the step where your book takes life. All of the illustrations are colored and are prepared so they will reproduce on a digital or offset printing press. If the author accepts these colored images, it is time to move on to full text layout and cover design. If the author rejects these colored images, corrections can be made at the “per page” correction price. Once the images are accepted they go on to final text layout and cover design. Should the author choose to have their own designer layout the final book and design the cover, the images will be supplied in a usable editable format.
A good book cover will help the author sell books. Same thing goes for a good text layout. This is the point where the graphic designer takes over from the illustrator. Whether you use our graphic design service or hire someone else, this is the stage that turns the text and illustrations into a final book. Although the text has been taken into account throughout the illustration process, now is when the style of the text is fine tuned. Once the author accepts the text layout and cover design, complete printing files will be prepared for digital or offset printing.
